The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) presents a major career survey of American artist Julie Mehretu (b. 1970, Addis Ababa), as part of the Sydney International Art Series 2024–2025. Julie Mehretu: A Transcore of the Radical Imaginatory is the first exhibition of the artist's work to be shown in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Widely regarded as one of the most significant painters of her generation, Mehretu is renowned for her powerful and often monumental works that reference histories of art and architecture and urgent contemporary issues such as revolution, migration, global capitalism and climate change.
Julie Mehretu features more than 80 paintings and works on paper dating from 1995 to the present, and includes new works created especially for the exhibition.
