Explore how art and creative learning can enhance the way you engage with people living with dementia.

This professional development evening will be led by MCA Artist Educators who will share insights from the MCA’s Artful program and its 3-year research project (completed in 2018) on the impact of art-making on individuals with dementia.
The workshop will include a discussion with participants, care partners and a representative from Dementia Australia reflecting on their experiences from the program as well as the impact of creative engagement. We will also offer several examples of art-making activities and approaches to creative learning that support people with dementia to engage with art.

What’s in it for me?

Attendees will walk away with tools to experiment with creative expression when caring for partners and individuals with dementia, as well as gain insights on how to open up new meaningful connections through contemporary art.

Do I need to bring anything?
No, all materials will be provided. Refreshments from 5.30 pm.
About Artful
The Artful: Art and Dementia program has been running at the MCA since 2015 in collaboration with the Brain and Mind Centre and Dementia Australia. Participants have expressed that this program offers new avenues for meaningful connections. We have also seen the impact art and creative expression can have on participants leading to improved self-esteem, well-being and social inclusion. The Artful program is supported by Platypus Asset Management and includes free 6-week programs and community open days throughout the year.
