Low Waste Kitchen Workshop with Cornersmith: Skins, stones and stems: Part of Conversation Starters 2019: Temperature Rising

Creative studios, NCCL: Level 3

Unlock the flavour potential of your food scraps and see kitchen waste in a whole new light.
Leek tops, beet stems, tired herbs and other food scraps often thoughtlessly end up in the garbage. Our friends at Cornersmith will share their secrets on how to run a low-waste kitchen, making the most out of your food and getting creative with what is left in your fridge, fruit bowl or garden using traditional techniques.

Presented as a part of Conversation Starters 2019: Temperature Rising, a weekend of art, discussion and action.

What's in it for me?
In this hands-on workshop, you will create a take-home kitchen scrap bouillon (stock) paste and a multipurpose flavoured apple cider vinegar to use for quick pickling, dressing salads and medicinal tonics.

Experience level: No experience is necessary to participate in this workshop.
Age recommendation: This workshop is recommended for ages 16+.

About Cornersmith
Cornersmith is a family-run business with three stores in Sydney’s Inner West. Cornersmith make everything from scratch using local, in-season produce from small scale Australian suppliers, makers and growers. The business is whole heartedly committed to reducing our food waste and believe in ethical food production, sustainable business practice and community engagement.
Cornersmith's goal is to arm the community with the skills you need to tackle the pressing issue of food waste at a household level. Participants will walk away from classes informed and empowered to make better choices in their kitchens and lead their families and communities to a waste-free future.
