Two outstanding international exhibitions. One pass. Save 20% when you see both Sydney International Art Series exhibitions. David Goldblatt: Photographs 1948–2018 Museum of Contemporary Art (19 October 2018 – 3 March 2019) Considered one of the greatest photographers of our time, David Goldblatt is highly regarded for his compelling observations of South Africa during the rise and dismantling of apartheid. By turning his focus on the nation’s people, his images offer powerful reflection and insight into the country’s turbulent history. A landmark exhibition for the MCA, this is the first major retrospective of David Goldblatt's work in the southern hemisphere and encompasses the breadth and scope of his career. The exhibition will feature key black-and-white and colour photographic series, as well as early vintage prints and never-before-seen material from his personal archive. Masters of modern art from the Hermitage Art Gallery of New South Wales (13 October 2018 – 3 March 2019) Masters of modern art from the Hermitage presents a magnificent selection of works from the towering figures of modern art. Drawn from the unparalleled collections of the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, the exhibition captures the ebullience, idealism and confidence of artists as they freed themselves from tradition. Exploring the origins of modern art, from the bold experiments of Cézanne, to the radical innovation of artists like Matisse and Picasso, this exhibition documents the seismic shifts that took place in European painting in the years after 1900 and encapsulates a defining moment in art history.
